This post is doing the rounds right now following yesterday’s conviction of a former President in New York.
This is the Manhattan Appeals Court, and we all know this will have to go to the Supreme Court.

Do you think they will try to sentence Trump to prison? pic.twitter.com/QpmWoLebzV
Out of the 21 justices who sit on the First Division of the New York State Supreme Court Appellate Division, five are Black: Presiding Justice Dianne T. Renwick, Justice Pitt-Burke, Justice Troy K. Webber, Justice Tanya R. Kennedy, and Justice Marsha D. Michael.
In its 130-year history, the Appellate Division, First Department, the prestigious, Manhattan-based midlevel appeals court, had never held oral arguments before an all-African American bench. The photo is of those women. The historic court makeup was announced in February of 2024 during Black History Month.
Statistically, the chances of all five of these justices being called to hear any future Trump appeal is slim.
